We had a major fire here in Estes Park. The historic Park Theatre Mall caught fire early yesterday morning. Karen noticed the smoke while looking out of our windows at six-thirty a.m. She walked on down, them came back and got me out of bed at seven. We spent the next six hours watching the fire from various vantage points. The mall was a total loss, but thanks to the efforts of several fire departments, the theatre, not to mention the rest of the town, was saved and no one was injured or killed.
Thankfully, it was pretty much a dead calm early in the morning. If we would have had one of our trademark strong-wind days, things might have turned out far worse.
My camera died three days ago, so here's a big "thank you" to our neighbors Jan and Donna for providing the following photos!
